Enhancing Confidence in Minutes
My days as a heavy-duty mechanic don't align with a full face of makeup anymore. However, back when I worked in a coffee shop and a hospital, makeup was my daily armor. It concealed stress pimples, delivering a smooth, flawless glow that reshaped my confidence.
The ritual became a form of self-care and meditation, instilling positivity with every stroke of the brush. Confidence, a gradual arrival, transformed my perception of beauty. My routine eventually streamlined from an hour-long time suck into a swift 15-minute morning ritual that empowered me for the day ahead.
Now, whether it's light makeup or a bare face, my confidence stands tall. Feeling beautiful without makeup stemmed from first feeling confident—a surprising truth. Sharing my skills and aiding others brought me joy, finding beauty in helping others embrace confidence.
Personal Tips for Effortless Makeup
Primer Power: I used to apply foundation for so long because I didn't understand why primer is so important. If you don't know, primer is used as a pre-makeup layer to even out your skin and help your makeup last longer. It also makes it so that your makeup goes on smoother as well. Now that I know its benefits, I use it every time I apply makeup.

Nightly Ritual: Cleansing your face nightly clears everyday dirt buildup. I was awful at this as a teenager. I loved makeup, though I wasn't allowed to wear it often, and I was really bad at washing my face at night. I figured that it kind of wiped off on my pillowcase, and as long as I washed the case regularly, it was fine. Not to mention I didn't have much residue, so I figured it was fine. I didn't even consider that it was soaking into my skin all day and clogging my pores. No wonder I struggled with pimples after wearing makeup.
Powder Prowess: Apply translucent powder after foundation for a natural finish. I recently was looking up 1950s-1960s makeup tutorials because I really like the look of the makeup. As I watched, they explained that if you apply powder first, pat it on your wrist to remove the excess and apply it to your face for a more natural, cake-free look. I tried it out the next few days and I was surprised at the results. Now when I apply makeup, I make sure to powder for a more natural look.
Face Mapping Magic: Learn precise highlighting and concealer application for your face shape. I personally looked up face shapes on Google and then went through with a mirror and compared my face to the pictures. Now TikTok has a filter that can help you figure out your face shape.

Illuminating Insight: Use quality lighting for consistent makeup application. I try to use daylight bulbs in my house, but I do know that the weather outside can impact how the sun hits my makeup. So I check my face near my kitchen window to make sure that I haven't got any lines that need blending.
Practice Makes Perfect: Consistent practice refines technique, enhancing both speed and quality. It took me forever to get my speed down. But learning how you like to look and then perfecting it will save you so much time.
Quick Techniques to Elevate Confidence:
Foundation for a Flawless Base:
Use light foundation or BB cream for even coverage, blending outwards. I didn't know how important the direction was, and I used to layer it on, oof. I shake my head at some of my old photos. The reason that you blend out is so that as you're running out of makeup on your brush or sponge, it blends more evenly into your natural skin.
Foundation for All Skin Shades
Find Your Undertone: Identify your undertone (warm, cool, or neutral) and test shades in natural light. It's suggested that you use your inner wrist. I personally went into one of my local beauty shops and asked for help because my wrists have tattoos on them.
Consider Formulas: Choose formulas that cater to different skin types: oily, dry, or combination skin. Also consider what level of coverage you want. If your skin has different shades of color like mine, you might want a medium coverage or full coverage. I also like buildable coverage makeup when I know I'm going to have a lot of time to do my makeup for a date night.
Enhance with Minimal Products:
Apply concealer as needed for extra coverage, blending gently.
Concealer for All Skin Shades
Shade Selection: Choose a concealer that matches your foundation or is a shade lighter. I tend to get a concealer that is a shade lighter than my skin tone then I can also use it as my highlighter. I try to use products for multiple uses if I can that way I don't put too much on my face.
The Power of Basics
A touch of blush and bronzer brings warmth to your face. After speaking to a makeup consultant at the store I asked my face shape and looked up the best ways to apply blush and bronzer. Youtube is a great resource because you can lookup makeup for your skin tone as well, which is helpful when you're not sure where to start when it comes to buying products.
Bronzer and Highlighter for All Skin Shades:
Shade Match: Choose bronzer shades only slightly deeper than your skin tone to avoid a stark contrast.
Universal Shades: Opt for highlighters like champagne or rose gold that complement various undertones and shades.
Lips that Speak Volumes
Choose a lip color or hydrating lip balm to complete the look. I like using lip tints with a lip balm to hydrate my lips. I like a hint of color but I don't like too much. I like using lip balms more than anything. Especially this time of year. I'm the kind of person who licks my lips and will occasionally bite them when I'm nervous, which is extremely dehydrating. I'm working on breaking the habit. It drives me nuts when I notice that I'm doing it.
Effortless Morning Tips

Prep Ahead: Organize essentials the night before for a smooth morning routine. I have a mini makeup bag with all of my daily makeup, that way I don't get distracted by something else and remap what I want to do.
Versatile Products: Invest in multi-use items for efficient makeup application.
Practice: Experiment with different looks to boost confidence. Look at different filters online and see if you can recreate your favorites. I found that I really liked one filter, and I decided one day to try recreating a selfie that I'd taken using it. I kept practicing until I looked just about the same in both. I still practice it, but I've found other ways to do my makeup that I like a bit more, to be honest.
Makeup is self-expression—embrace your uniqueness and experiment. Remember, there's no right or wrong way to do it. Refine your routine, finding confidence and beauty in your unique approach to makeup, one stroke at a time.
